Foot Orthotics

What are orthotics?

Orthotics are custom made inserts worn in your shoes that provide correction to your feet, helping them to function more efficiently. Just like prescription eye glasses, orthotics cannot be bought over the counter and should only be purchased when prescribed by a professional.

What problems can orthotics help with?

Since your feet are the foundation that supports your body, poor foot function and alignment may contribute to various pains such as bunions, foot pain, hip pain, knee pain, back pain and even headaches. Custom orthotics are often the treatment of choice for plantar fasciitis and shin splints. Over 80% of people of all ages, from children to seniors, experience pain that may have its roots in improper foot mechanics.

What are some common foot problems?

The most common foot problems requiring correction are flat feet (pes planus) and over-pronation. Other common problems are high arches, fallen arches, over-supination, heel spurs and plantar fasciitis.

How do I know if I need orthotics?

We will do a computerized gait-scan analysis of the way you walk. Walking across a computerized pressure plate, thousands of tiny sensors capture the distribution of pressure of your foot over time. This data is analyzed to determine if orthotics would benefit you.

What kinds of orthotics are available?

There are many types of orthotics available, depending upon your personal preferences. Orthotics can be made to slip into shoes that you already own, or you can order brand-name shoes, sandals, clogs and boots with the orthotics built right in. We carry many quality footwear brands such as Asics, Brooks, New Balance, Naot, Florsheim, Hush Puppies, Skechers, Rockport and many more. To see available footwear, please visit our suppliers by clicking the following links: Premier Orthotics Lab, Premier Orthotics Lab #2, The Orthotic Group, Atlas Orthotic Lab and Ontario Orthotic Lab.

How much do orthotics cost?

We include the cost of the gait-scan analysis in the price of our orthotics. The cost of orthotics depends on the type of orthotic required.  We will discuss the cost with you once your requirements are determined. Many extended health benefit plans will cover part or all of this cost.
